Managing Project Types in Ontraccr

🏷️ Managing Project Types in Ontraccr Overview

Project Types help you organize and categorize projects based on their nature — like Service Jobs, Large Builds, or Commercial Projects.

By setting up types, you can filter, report, and customize views more efficiently across the system.

🎯 Why Use Project Types?

  • Group similar projects together
  • Improve filtering and reporting
  • Customize workflows based on type
  • Streamline your project dashboard view

🛠️ How to Create a Project Type

  1. Go to Settings → Customization → Types.
  2. Choose the Projects category.
  3. Click the Add button to create a new type.
  4. Fill in the fields:
    • Type Name (e.g., "Service Job", "Commercial Build")
    • Icon (choose a logo or symbol to represent the type)
  5. Click Save.

✅ Your new Project Type will now appear in the left side menu, under Projects, Filters, Forms, and when creating/editing projects!

🖊️ How to Edit a Project Type

  • Navigate to Settings → Customization → Types → Projects.
  • Find the type you want to edit.
  • Click Edit (pencil icon).
  • Update the name or change the icon as needed.
  • Hit Save to apply changes.

🗑️ How to Delete a Project Type

  • Only delete a type if no active projects are using it.
  • Go to the Types list.
  • Click the Delete (bin) icon beside the type.

🛑 Warning: Deleting a type does not delete associated projects, but those projects will lose their categorization.

🧩 Using Project Types in Your Workflow

When Creating a New Project

  • In the Project Info step, select the appropriate Type from the dropdown.
  • If you don't select one, the project will default to None.

When Filtering Projects

  • Use the Filter button on the Projects page.
  • Filter by any Type you've created to narrow down your list.

🧠 Tips & Edge Cases

Start simple: Use broad categories like "Service" and "Construction" at first.

Icons help visually distinguish types — don't skip picking one!

Different tabs per type:

You can customize which tabs appear for each Project Type (explained separately under Tab Customization).

If a type is missing from your filter options, double-check if it was properly saved!

Example Scenario

Your company handles small maintenance jobs and large commercial builds.

You create two types:

  • "Service Jobs"
  • "Commercial Projects"

When filtering, you instantly find the right project group without clutter.

🚀 Summary

Setting up and managing Project Types keeps your Ontraccr workspace clean, fast, and organized.

A few minutes spent setting up types saves hours later when filtering or reporting!
