Custom Fields in Cost Codes

🧾 Custom Fields in Cost Codes

📘 Overview

Ontraccr allows you to extend cost codes with custom fields, just like you can for Projects, Customers, Vendors, and Equipment. This is useful when you need to track additional attributes that aren’t part of the default cost code setup.

You can define your own fields — such as region, internal tags, crew type, or special notes — and have them appear across the system where cost codes are used.

⚙️ Where to Configure Custom Fields

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Click Customization
  3. Select Custom Fields
  4. Choose Cost Codes as the entity

➕ Adding a Custom Field

  • Click Add Field
  • Choose the type of input:
    • Text, Dropdown, Number, Date, Yes/No, etc.
  • Enter the field label and other settings
  • Click Save

Once saved:

  • Your custom fields will appear at the bottom of the cost code creation/edit form
  • They will be visible in the Global Cost Codes page and wherever cost codes are used downstream

🧠 Use Cases

  • Add a region or branch code to segment cost codes
  • Track internal rates or classifications beyond hourly/daily cost
  • Add a reference field that links cost codes to external systems
  • Record project type applicability or tags (e.g., “Residential”, “Service-Only”)

📄 Where Custom Fields Are Used

Once configured, custom cost code fields:

  • Show up during cost code creation/editing
  • Can be pulled into:
    • Forms
    • Timesheets
    • Invoices
    • Progress Page exports
