🧾 Cost Code Templates in Ontraccr

📘 Overview

Cost Code Templates in Ontraccr allow you to save pre-configured sets of cost codes for reuse across projects. This dramatically speeds up project setup — especially for businesses that run similar job types (e.g., Residential vs. Commercial vs. Service).

Instead of manually adding cost codes each time, you can apply a template and auto-populate a project with a ready-made list of codes.

🧩 Where to Manage Templates

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Click Customization
  3. Choose Job Costing
  4. You’ll find the Templates section here
    • Create, name, and edit templates
    • Assign specific cost codes to each one

🛠️ Creating a Cost Code Template

  1. Navigate to Settings > Customization > Job Costing
  2. Click Add Template
  3. Enter a template name (e.g., "Residential", "Service", "Multi-Unit")
  4. Select the subset of cost codes to include
  5. Save

✅ Templates are division-aware — ensure you're including the correct division’s cost codes.

🧪 Applying a Template to a Project

You can apply a template:

  • During project creation (Step 3: Cost Codes)
  • When editing an existing project

Steps:

  1. In the Cost Codes step, click Apply Costing Template
  2. Choose your saved template
  3. On selection, the project will be populated with the full set of cost codes from the template

📌 Note:

  • If any cost codes have already been added to the project, the template option is disabled (grayed out)
  • To use a template in that case, first remove all existing codes, then apply the template

🧠 Use Cases

Standardize cost tracking for common job types

e.g. Residential jobs always use: “Rough-In,” “Drywall,” “Fixtures,” “Paint”

Apply industry-specific logic (e.g. service dispatch vs. construction)

Cut down setup time across large teams or departments

🔧 Modifying Template-Added Cost Codes

After applying a template:

  • You can still add or remove individual cost codes
  • Templates provide a starting point, but you can customize per project as needed
