✏️ Editing Gantt Tasks: Inline Edits, Task Slider & Best Practices
📘 Article Purpose
This article explains how to edit existing tasks in the Gantt Schedule—whether directly on the timeline, through the task slider, or via editable columns.
✍️ Method 1: Edit via Task Slider
- Click any task on the Gantt timeline or click the pencil icon in the task list
- The Task Slider will open with all editable fields
- Update any fields:
- Name, duration, start date, users, materials, etc.
- Click Submit to save changes
✅ All changes immediately reflect in the Gantt timeline
✏️ Method 2: Inline Edits in the Gantt Table
Some task details can be edited directly in the table (left panel):
Editable via Inline Fields:
- Task Name
- Notes
- Progress %
- Label
Not Editable Inline:
- Materials
- Equipment
- Expected User Groups
🧠 Use Appearance Settings to show or hide specific columns for quick edits
🔄 Timeline Adjustments
You can also:
- Drag a task bar on the Gantt chart to move it
- Stretch/shrink the bar to adjust duration
🧭 The system respects working days and holidays, so weekends or holidays will be skipped in the duration logic
📐 Best Practices
Situation | Recommended Method |
---|---|
Change everything at once | Use the Task Slider |
Quick updates to name, label, or note | Inline in table |
Shift timing or duration visually | Drag/rescale on timeline |
🧠 Performance Tips
- Use the List View toggle if your schedule is large and laggy
- Use filters to isolate only the tasks you need to update
- Keep task labels up to date for better filtering and reporting
