Notes Tab in Board Cards: Comments, Mentions & File Uploads

🗒️ Notes Tab in Board Cards: Comments, Mentions & File Uploads

Overview

The Notes Tab in each board card allows team members to leave comments, tag users, and upload files or documents. It's a central place for ongoing communication, feedback, and updates related to that specific card — keeping everyone on the same page.

🎯 Why Use the Notes Tab?

Use the Notes Tab to:

  • Keep a running comment history for the card
  • Collaborate across departments and roles in real time
  • Upload and store contextual files or photos
  • Use @mentions to notify and involve the right people
  • Record updates that don’t belong in structured fields

🧩 How It Works

  1. Open any board card
  2. Click the “Notes” tab at the top
  3. Type your message in the comment box
  4. (Optional) Use @username to tag a teammate
  5. (Optional) Click the paperclip icon to upload a file or image
  6. Hit Submit to post

✅ Notes are displayed in chronological order, creating a running log of all comments and uploads on the card.

👥 Using @Mentions

Type @ and begin typing a name to tag someone:

  • @emily
  • @foreman

The mentioned user will receive a notification and can click straight into the card.

📎 Uploading Files in Notes

Click the file upload icon in the Notes tab:

  • Upload images, PDFs, spreadsheets, or any file you need
  • Files will also appear in the card’s Attachments Tab

✅ Example Use Case

  • A PM writes: “@Estimator Please review this request by Thursday.”
  • They upload a PDF proposal as reference
  • The estimator is notified, opens the card, and replies in the same Notes thread
  • The team maintains a clear, time-stamped log of the conversation

🧠 Tips & Edge Cases

  • Notes are not editable or deletable — they serve as a permanent record
  • Attachments in notes are automatically included in the Attachments Tab
  • Mentioning users is often faster than assigning a task or sending an email
  • Ideal for quick updates, clarification requests, and approvals
