Clock In to Service Jobs Without a Project List (Service Job Toggle)

🔧 Clock In to Service Jobs Without a Project List (Service Job Toggle)

🧭 Introduction

Not every job has a predefined project in Ontraccr. For mobile workers handling one-off or ad hoc service calls, the new Service Job toggle allows them to clock in by manually entering the job location, even if it’s not listed as a formal project.

This article explains how to use the Service Job option during clock-in, when it appears, and how it integrates with regular time tracking.

🔐 Prerequisites

This feature must be enabled in the web app first.

Web App Path:

Settings → Time Tracking → Enable Service Jobs

Once enabled, the toggle appears in the mobile app's Clock In screen.

📱 How to Use the Service Job Toggle

  1. Open the Clock screen on the mobile app (either from Action Center or bottom nav bar)
  2. Tap the red “Clock In” button
  3. Toggle on “Service Job”
  4. Enter a custom location name (e.g., “123 Maple Street – Boiler Repair”)
  5. Tap Save (top-right)
  6. Hit the Clock In button

You are now clocked into a job that doesn’t exist in your project list — ideal for last-minute or field-initiated work.

🔁 Switching Between Service Job and Regular Projects

  • To go back to clocking into a regular project, simply toggle “Service Job” off
  • You’ll return to the normal project dropdown where you can select from the list
  • You can switch back and forth as needed

💡 Use Cases

  • Technicians performing on-demand service calls
  • Emergency jobs not scheduled in advance
  • Pilot or trial sites not yet created as official projects

Outcomes

Using the Service Job toggle allows mobile users to:

  • Track time accurately even when no formal project exists
  • Log one-off jobs without needing admin setup
  • Stay compliant with time tracking protocols on ad hoc work
