Labels for Equipment

🏷️ Labels for Equipment

📘 Overview

Labels in Ontraccr provide a way to add flexible, searchable tags to equipment beyond their assigned type. Labels can be used to add additional context, support filtering, and make your equipment list easier to navigate.

Unlike types (which are structured categories), labels are free-form tags and can be applied in combination with any type.

🔖 What Are Equipment Labels?

Labels allow you to:

  • Group equipment with shared characteristics
  • Add a second layer of classification within types
  • Filter and search your equipment list more effectively

🔁 Example Use Case:

You have a type called Customer Equipment. That group may include:

  • Pickups
  • Trenchers
  • Conveyors
  • Rollers

Rather than creating a separate type for each variation, you can:

  • Keep the type as Customer Equipment
  • Apply labels like Trencher, Conveyor, or Roller

This approach gives you a clean type hierarchy while still enabling detailed filtering.

🧭 How to Add Labels

Labels are applied when creating or editing an equipment profile.

  1. Go to the Equipment Page
  2. Click Add (or Edit an existing item)
  3. Scroll to the Labels section
  4. Type a label or select from previously used ones
  5. Submit to save

🎯 You can apply multiple labels to the same equipment.

🔍 Filtering by Labels

On the Equipment Page:

  1. Click the Filter icon
  2. Use the Labels filter to:
    • Show only equipment with specific labels
    • Combine label filters with status, type, or project

This is helpful for:

  • Viewing all equipment tagged as Hydraulic
  • Auditing all assets labeled High Risk
  • Isolating Customer Equipment labeled as Trencher + Needs Repair

✨ Benefits of Using Labels

  • Highly flexible
  • Stackable (multiple labels per item)
  • Enables granular filtering without complicating the type structure
  • Helps build customized equipment reports
