🧱 Creating a Board from a Custom Template in Ontraccr

Overview

In addition to Ontraccr’s default templates, you can create and reuse your own custom board templates. These templates can include your preferred statuses, card design, and layout — helping your team replicate workflows consistently and efficiently.

šŸŽÆ When to Use This

Use a custom template when:

  • You’ve designed a board you want to reuse for similar workflows
  • You want consistency across departments, teams, or projects
  • You need to roll out new boards quickly without manual setup

🧩 How to Create a Board from a Custom Template

  1. Click the āž• Plus Icon next to the board title.

  2. Click ā€œImport from Board Template.ā€

  3. Switch from ā€œBoard Libraryā€ to ā€œBoard Templatesā€ tab.
This shows templates you or your company have saved in Ontraccr's settings.

  4. Select the custom template you want to use.

  5. Customize the board setup:
    • Board Name: Rename it if needed.
    • Division: Select which division(s) the board should belong to.
    • Review the card design and statuses included in the template.
  6. Click ā€œSubmit.ā€
The board is created instantly with all custom settings applied.

šŸ› ļø How to Save a Custom Template (Setup Step)

If you haven’t already created a custom template, here’s how to do it:

  1. Go to Settings > Customization > Boards
  2. Click the Add āž• button
  3. Fill out:
    • Template Name
    • Description
    • Card Type (e.g., Project Bid, Job Candidate, etc.)
    • Card Title
    • Card Sections + Fields
    • Default Statuses (type in each one and hit Enter)
  4. Click Submit
This saves the template for future use under the Board Templates tab.

āœ… Example Use Case

Let’s say your estimating team uses the same workflow repeatedly:

  • You create a custom board template called ā€œEstimating Board – Tendersā€
  • It includes card fields for quote value, bid due date, estimator, etc.
  • You reuse this template for every new tender batch, ensuring consistency without recreating the board each time

🧠 Tips & Edge Cases

  • Templates can only be created by users with access to Settings > Customization.
  • You can create templates for any card design in your system — even highly specialized ones.
  • Templates are not locked — once you create a board from a template, you can change it however you like.
