Overview

In Ontraccr, an Assembly is a bundled item made up of multiple materials or parts. It allows you to quote, track, and manage grouped components as a single unit — such as an electrical outlet that includes boxes, wire, plates, and receptacles.

This article explains how to create assemblies, how costs are calculated, and how they can be used in your workflow.


📦 What Is an Assembly?

An assembly is:

  • A composite item made from multiple materials or parts already in your database.
  • Used when you want to represent a unit (e.g., “electrical outlet”) that consists of several distinct components.
  • Managed and quoted as a single line item.

📌 Use Case: An “Electrical Outlet” assembly includes:

  • Electrical box
  • Cover plate
  • Receptacle
  • Wire
  • Breaker

➕ How to Create an Assembly

  1. Go to the Materials Page.
  2. Click Add +Add Assembly.
  3. A form will open on the right-hand side.

🔹 Required Fields

  • Name – What you're calling the assembly (e.g., “Electrical Outlet”)
  • Description – Summary of what the assembly includes
  • Division – Required if using multiple divisions

🔹 Optional Fields

  • Supplier – Where you typically purchase these components
  • Assembly Cost – Cost override if you want to manually set it (optional)
  • Labor Cost & Markup – Installation time/value
  • Units – e.g., “each,” “per install”

🧩 Adding Materials to the Assembly

  1. Scroll to the Materials section of the form.
  2. Click the “+ Add” button to add rows.
  3. For each row:
    • Select a material from your database.
    • Enter the quantity required for that material in the assembly.

As you add components:

  • Their individual costs auto-calculate into the total assembly cost.
  • If a material has labor cost/markup, that also rolls into the assembly labor total.

🧮 Cost Calculations

  • Assembly Cost = Sum of individual material costs (unless overridden)
  • Labor Cost = Sum of labor per item × quantity (if provided)
  • Markups applied on each component will reflect in the final sale price

📌 Tip: If you update the cost of a material later, it will affect any assemblies using it.


🏷️ Identifying Assemblies

Assemblies have a unique icon:

  • Three stacked rectangles = Assembly
  • Triangle of boxes = Material (individual part)

  • Multi-part installs bundled for quoting

🔍 Viewing Assembly Details

Click any assembly in the database to:

  • View all associated parts
  • Check total costs and labor pricing
  • Access the Timeline tab for audit history (see Article 13)
