🔢 Card Number Anchors & Using Card Numbers as Titles in Ontraccr

Overview

Card designs in Ontraccr support automated card numbering using prefix anchors. You can also configure the system to use the card number as the card’s title, which is helpful in workflows where consistency and ID-based tracking are more important than descriptive titles (like POs, service tickets, or asset IDs).

🎯 Why Use Card Numbers?

Use card numbering to:

  • Automatically generate a unique ID for every card (e.g., PO-0001, HR-0023)
  • Standardize how cards are referenced across teams
  • Avoid the need for manual naming conventions
  • Use numbers as identifiers in search, reporting, or documentation

🧩 How to Enable Card Numbering and Set an Anchor

  1. Go to Settings > Boards
  2. Edit or create a card design
  3. Enable the toggle for Card Numbering
  4. Enter an anchor— e.g., 1, 1000, 2000 etc.
  5. Save the card design by clicking the submit button

✅ Cards using this design will be auto-numbered.

✏️ How to Use Card Number as the Title

Within the same card design:

  1. Enable Use Card Number as Card Title
  2. Save the changes

Now:

  • The card’s title will be replaced with its number
  • You won’t be able to manually enter a custom title
  • This helps ensure naming is fully standardized

✅ Example Use Case

  • You create a card design called “Work Order”
  • Prefix = WO
  • “Use number as title” is enabled
  • As cards are created, they appear as:
    • 1, 2, 3
  • Field staff and admins use the number to track the job in notes, forms, and task assignments

🧠 Tips & Edge Cases

  • Card numbers are unique per board, not globally
  • Anchors help with visual identification across multiple boards
  • If using numbers as titles, custom titles cannot be added — the number is the official title
  • Great for POs, requests, inspections, or service workflows where ID tracking > description
