🔢 Showing Card Numbers in Ontraccr Boards
Overview
Ontraccr lets you enable unique card numbers for every card on a board. These are automatically generated and displayed alongside the card title, making it easier to reference, track, and organize cards — especially in high-volume workflows.
🎯 Why Use Card Numbers?
Card numbers help you:
- Create a ticketing or job number system
- Reference cards in meetings or field conversations
- Track cards more easily in search, filters, or reports
- Avoid confusion when multiple cards have similar titles
🧩 How to Show Card Numbers
- Open your board and click the ⚙️ Settings icon.
- In the Details tab, scroll to the “Show Card Number” checkbox.
- Check the box and click Submit.
✅ All cards on that board will now show a unique number (e.g., #001
, #002
, etc.)
📋 Where Card Numbers Appear
- Displayed beside or beneath the card title in all board views (Card, List, Timeline)
- Can be used in filters, searches, and references
✅ Example Use Cases
Use Case | How Card Numbers Help |
---|---|
Support Ticket Tracking | Each ticket has a unique number (e.g., “Ticket #034”) |
Field Service Management | Techs reference job numbers instead of long names |
HR Onboarding | Tie new hire cards to internal ID numbers |
Procurement | Assign a PO number to each purchasing request |
🧠 Tips & Edge Cases
- Card numbers are board-specific — they don’t carry over across boards
- You can still edit the card title — the number is added as a visual tag
- If used consistently, card numbers make external reporting or referencing much easier
- Combine with filters and sorting for organized tracking of jobs or issues
