Customizing the Mobile App Experience from the Web App
📲 Customizing the Mobile App Experience from the Web App
🧭 Introduction
The Ontraccr mobile app experience can be custom tailored per user role directly from the web app settings. This gives administrators powerful control over what each worker sees and interacts with in the mobile app — from the Action Center layout to permissions for viewing projects, equipment, and more.
This guide explains how to customize the mobile app experience for your teams using Action Center settings and Roles & Permissions on the web app.
🎯 Why Customize the Mobile App?
- Make the app more relevant for each role (e.g., field worker vs supervisor)
- Reduce clutter by hiding unnecessary tools
- Control access to sensitive information (e.g., equipment, time cards)
- Streamline onboarding with simplified mobile views
⚙️ Step 1: Customize the Action Center Layout by Role
You can decide which widgets show up in the mobile app's Action Center for each role in your company.
🔄 Navigation Path:
Web App → Settings
→ Customization
→ Action Center
📝 What You Can Do:
- Select a role (e.g., Field Worker, Foreman)
- Check or uncheck Action Center items:
- Clock
- Schedule
- Board Cards
- Tasks
- Equipment
- Forms
- View Manual Forms
- Time Cards
- Form Submissions
📌 Behavior Notes:
- Changes apply only to users with the selected role.
- You can also reorder how items appear in the Action Center by dragging and dropping.
- These items are shortcuts to full app features — hiding them doesn’t remove the feature entirely, just the quick access tile.
✅ Example Use Case:
Want to hide the Equipment section for administrative roles? Just uncheck "Equipment" under that role's Action Center settings.
🔐 Step 2: Set Role-Based Permissions (Web + Mobile)
The Roles & Permissions section controls access to entire feature areas across both web and mobile.
🔄 Navigation Path:
Web App → Settings
→ Roles & Permissions
📋 Examples of Permissions You Can Control:
- View Materials
- View Equipment
- View Projects
- View Boards
- View Vendors
- View Clients
These permissions affect not only the web experience, but also what appears under the “More” menu in the mobile app.
🚧 Edge Case: Missing Items in Mobile App?
If a user reports not seeing something (like equipment, vendors, or clients) in the mobile app:
- ✅ Confirm they have the correct role
- ✅ Check if their role’s permissions allow visibility
- ✅ Verify their Action Center items are enabled
💡 Pro Tip
If you want workers to only see forms specifically assigned to them, uncheck “View Manual Forms” in the Action Center settings. This will show only:
- Assigned forms (from workflows or supervisors)
- Favorited forms (manually marked)
This limits access and keeps their forms list tidy.
✅ Outcome
After setting this up, each mobile user will:
- Only see what’s relevant to their role
- Get faster access to what they use most
- Have a more focused, user-friendly mobile interface
