Selecting a Card Design (Card Type) for Your Ontraccr Board

🧾 Selecting a Card Design (Card Type) for Your Ontraccr Board

Overview

Every board in Ontraccr uses a card type that defines what information will be tracked in each card (such as project details, candidate info, equipment data, etc.). Choosing the right card design is a critical step when setting up a board — it determines the structure of your data.

🎯 When to Use This

Choose a card type when:

  • You’re creating a new board (from scratch or from a template)
  • You want to ensure the board captures the right fields for your workflow
  • You’re setting up specialized boards (e.g., for HR, estimating, project tracking)

🧩 How to Select a Card Type (Card Design)

You must choose a card type when creating a board — this step is mandatory.

  1. Click the ➕ Plus Icon to create a new board.
  2. In the board creation slider, locate the “Card Type” dropdown.
  3. Select a relevant design from the list (e.g.):
    • Project Tracker Card – for tracking projects
    • Job Candidate Card – for hiring or HR workflows
    • Project Bid Card – for estimating and proposals
    • General Task Card – for everyday task tracking
  4. Complete the rest of the slider and hit Submit.

✅ Your board is now linked to that card design.

🧪 What Happens Next?

Once the card type is set:

  • Every new card created on that board will use the selected design.
  • Fields shown inside the cards (and on the board) come from that card type.
  • You can’t change the card type for an existing board later — you’d need to create a new board with a different card design.

Example Use Cases

  • HR Board: Select the Job Candidate card type.
    • Includes fields like resume, scorecard, offer letter, etc.
  • Project Tracker Board: Use the Project Tracker card type.
    • Includes project address, value, start/end dates, etc.
  • Equipment Management: Use a card design that tracks equipment ID, inspection status, repair notes, etc.

🧠 Tips & Edge Cases

  • Can’t find a card design that fits? You may need to create a custom card type in the system settings first (covered in a future article).
  • Card design also impacts what shows in List View and Timeline View — choose fields that reflect your workflow stages.
  • Choosing the wrong card type can limit your reporting or tracking later. If unsure, consult your Ontraccr admin or try building with a template first.
