# QR Code Generation & Usage for Equipment

## **🔳 QR Code Generation & Usage for Equipment**  
 

## 📘 **Overview**

Ontraccr enables you to generate and manage **QR codes (or barcodes)** for each equipment profile. These codes allow field staff to **instantly pull up equipment details** using the Ontraccr mobile app by simply scanning the physical tag on the equipment.

This article covers how to generate, customize, print, scan, and reverse-link QR codes in the system.

## **🛠️ How to Generate a QR Code**

1.  Go to the **Equipment Page**
2.  Click **Add** or **Edit** on an equipment profile
3.  Scroll to the **QR Code Value** field

### **Step-by-Step:**

-   Enter any unique identifier in the **QR Code Value** field
    -   Common choice: reuse the equipment’s **ID**
-   A QR code will automatically generate below the field
-   Click the **Download** button next to the QR image to save it
-   Print and physically attach the code to the equipment

✅ QR codes are generated live based on the value you enter.

## **🔄 Customizing the Code Format**

You can choose different barcode formats based on what your company uses:

### Supported Formats:

-   **QR Code** (default)
-   **Code 128**
-   **Code 39**
-   **EAN 13**
-   **EAN 8**
-   **UPC E**
-   **ITF 14**

Select your desired format in the **Unique Code Format** dropdown under the QR section.

## **📥 Uploading Existing QR Codes**

If your company already uses pre-generated QR codes:

-   Use the **upload field** to add that QR code directly into the equipment profile
-   Ontraccr will **reverse-link** it to the appropriate equipment based on the value

## **📲 Scanning QR Codes in the Mobile App**

### To scan a QR code:

1.  Open the **Ontraccr mobile app**
2.  Tap the **camera icon**
3.  Scan the QR code attached to the equipment
4.  A yellow box will appear with a **“Click to Open”** prompt
5.  Tap it to instantly open the equipment profile

🔐 You must be logged into the correct account and division. QR codes are not cross-account compatible.

## **🔁 Using QR Codes in Forms**

QR codes can be used in two ways within forms:

### 1\. **Launching Forms from Equipment Profiles**

-   Tap the **form icon** in the top right of the equipment profile (web or mobile)
-   Choose a mapped form (e.g., inspection)
-   Equipment data will auto-populate in the form

### 2\. **Scanning from a Form Field**

-   In a form with a **“Choose One or More → Equipment”** field:
    -   Enable **QR scanning**
    -   On mobile, a **camera icon** appears next to the field
    -   Tap it to scan the equipment QR
    -   The form auto-fills with that equipment’s data

## **🔍 What Happens After Scanning?**

Once scanned, the equipment profile opens with access to:

-   Details
-   Files
-   Notes
-   Tasks
-   Forms
-   Timeline (web only)

The QR code becomes a fast-access gateway to everything related to that asset.
