## 📘 **Overview**

In Ontraccr, equipment can be either:

-   Assigned to **specific projects**, or
-   Made **globally selectable** across all projects via a setting called **Enable Global Selection**.

Understanding how these two behaviors work is crucial for managing which equipment appears in forms and project workflows.

## **🔧 Assigning Equipment to Projects**

When creating or editing an equipment profile, there is a field called **“Projects”**.

-   This field allows you to assign the equipment to one or more specific projects.
-   When assigned this way, the equipment is only **available for use** (e.g., in forms) on those specific projects.

### **When Is This Required?**

Project assignment is **mandatory** if **Enable Global Selection** is **disabled** (the default behavior).

## **🌐 What Is “Enable Global Selection”?**

**Enable Global Selection** is a setting that determines whether equipment should be filtered by project assignment in forms.

### 🔘 Behavior:

| Setting | Equipment Dropdown Shows |
| --- | --- |
| **Disabled** | Only equipment **assigned to the selected project** |
| **Enabled** | **All equipment**, regardless of project |

This setting is relevant in forms that include a field of type **Choose One or More → Equipment**.

## **🧭 How It Affects Forms**

Imagine a form has two dropdown fields:

1.  **Project (Choose One)**
2.  **Equipment (Choose One or More)**

-   If **Enable Global Selection is OFF**, the equipment dropdown only shows items tied to the selected project.
-   If **Enable Global Selection is ON**, it shows **all equipment**, regardless of project.

## **🔍 Where to Enable This Setting**

This setting is configured **at the form level**, not globally across the app.

To enable it:

1.  Edit the form in question.
2.  Locate the **equipment dropdown** field.
3.  Enable the **“Allow Global Selection”** toggle.

⚠️ Important: If this is not enabled, the system enforces strict project-based filtering.

## **🧠 Use Case Example**

**Scenario**: You have 50 pieces of equipment, but only 5 are assigned to a job site called "Cadence Project".

-   If global selection is **off**, users filling out a form for "Cadence" will only see those 5.
-   If global selection is **on**, they will see all 50.
